This afternoon at approximately 2:50 p.m., Loudon County Dispatch received a call from a Tellico Village resident reporting that her husband was armed with a pistol and making suicidal threats.
Loudon County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies responded to the home. Prior to deputies arriving, the man left the home in his vehicle. A short time later deputies located the vehicle traveling on Highway 444 and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The man refused to stop, and deputies initiated a pursuit.
During the pursuit, Loudon County Dispatchers were able to make contact with the man by phone. He eventually agreed to pull over and drove into the Poplar Springs Boat Ramp.
Deputies made contact with the man, who was still armed. He refused to exit the vehicle and would not leave the firearm inside the vehicle. Loudon County Sheriff’s Office negotiators and SWAT team members responded to the scene.
Negotiations continued for nearly two hours. At around 4:40 p.m., deputies took the man into custody. Deputies utilized less lethal bean bag rounds and a Taser during the arrest.
The man was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. At this time, no charges have been filed.
